You can look at today being National Acorn Squash Day in really only one of two ways:
The Glass Half-Empty Way:
Whuh? It’s early September. Acorn squash has no business making its presence known until, say, at least Halloween. Nay, post Halloween. Acorn squash is turkey and dressing and Pilgrims. It is not Labor Day.
OR
The Glass Half-Full Way:
We welcome you, Oh Autumn, and all your accouterments: sweaters, morning frost, chili, etc. etc. etc. and acorn squash. Honoring acorn squash on September 7 signals the impending arrival of nothing but the best season of the year. And although it’s considered a winter squash, the acorn squash belongs to the same species as all summer squashes (including zucchini and yellow crookneck squash).
We’re choosing glass half-full so Chef Randy and team will be showcasing this unique vegetable throughout today’s menu.
